20 Questions with Daniel Woods

I sat down for a quick session of 20 Questions with Daniel Woods, whose new single “Falling Through the Sky” is now available on iTunes! Check it out on the iTunes store, and take a look below at some facts you may not have known about our youngest artist.

You have a new single released! What's the title, and can you tell us about the inspiration behind it?
It’s called “Falling Through the Sky”. It was one of the first songs I wrote when I moved downtown. It was based off of this image of a fantasy couple romance, and may or may not be about a special girl. I picked that title because being in love feels like floating.

When did you realize you wanted to be a musician?
I’m currently a junior in high school and I realized the summer before sophomore year that I wanted to make music for the rest of my life. I've been a musician since middle school and had already known it would be a crazy huge part of me.

What do you turn to when you need inspiration?
Whenever I need inspiration, I listen to other music or take in my surroundings. Make stories from people I know and craft songs out of my own personal experiences, thoughts, and emotions.

We know you play piano, but if you could play another instrument what would it be?
If I could play another instrument it would be guitar! I'd love to be one of those cool artists who could jump off the keys one song and pick up a guitar the next, it's a very versatile skill I want to have.

You’re a musical theater fan as well. Can you tell us your favorite musical, and which dream role would you want to play?
My favorite musical is Pippin because I like the process the main character goes through trying to find his place in the world. My dream roles are that character, Link from Hairspray, and Marius from Les Miserables.

If you could have a karaoke sing-off against any other artist in the world, who would it be and what song would you sing?
I would have a sing off against Patrick Stump and I would challenge him by singing Death of a Bachelor by Panic! at the Disco.

What would be your dream performance venue?
My dream performance venue is the Grammy stage, one of my ultimate goals as an artist.

Would you ever want to compose music for TV or films?
I would totally love to score music for films, TV, and video games as well. Yet another thing added to the bucket list. I'd also be down to score a musical as well, working with playwrights to find the perfect sound for their stories.

What's your favorite TV show right now?
My favorite TV show right now is The Walking Dead, enough said.

Who's your favorite superhero and why?
My favorite superhero is Batman. Because Batman.

Pixar or Dreamworks?
I can't decide! I love both just as much they're both amazing studios!

Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?
Harry Potter

Star Wars or Star Trek?
Star Wars

What childhood cartoon gives you the ultra-feels?
I get most nostalgic watching the old Pokemon and Naruto episodes from the beginning of their series.

What animal best represents your personality?
I'm a Leo, so I would say a lion (that’s kind of why I got with Lion Bold, you know? [laughing]). But I think I'm also a puppy at heart.

What’s the one app on your phone that you can’t live without?
Notes and Voice Memos! I never know when inspiration will hit, whether I need to hum a melody, play some chords, or right out a dope lyric.

Favorite spot in San Diego?
My favorite spot in San Diego is Seaport Village in Downtown San Diego. 10/10 hangout spot.

What’s your dream vacation?
Vacation? I'll take a vacation once I've played every major city where I have fans.

If you were told you could have a lifetime supply of one food item, what would you want?
Hands down lifetime supply of Subway Sandwiches.

What are you dressing up as for Halloween?
I ain't dressing up, you can make something up for me.
